So, on a cold and dreary midnight, Caroline Kennedy decided to pull her name from Senatorial consideration for 'personal' reasons.
And most of the press said, oh, okay, we'll respect that and back off.
Oh no you don't. After what the media did to Sarah Palin and her family, I want to know every salacious detail of Caroline's 'personal' reasons. What, exactly are her IRS problems? And what is this about the illegal immigrant helper problem? And what about this affair she's having with the married publisher of the New York Times?
It's all very hush hush. I heard it once, on one network, and now a veil has been drawn.
It would be lovely if the playing field were level and everyone could have their private lives left private. But when the media rips apart a conservative woman, shreds her children and dumpster dives for every bit of scandal they can find about her husband - finally coming up with a dui when he was in his twenties and trumpeting that as though she was married to a serial killer, for heaven's sake, an accounting needs to be made.
I want front pages and headline news about every misstep this woman has made since she was ten. And then I want to know about her husband. And then I want to know about her children and whether she really gave birth to all of them herself or if one of her older ones gave birth to one of her younger ones. (Yes, they really accused Sarah Palin's 17-year old daughter of that.)
What is this Kennedy mythology? Her father was a womanizer; her mother married a Greek tycoon for money (which is helping Caroline live very comfortably still); her beloved Uncle Teddy was not only a womanizer, but a murderer who got away with it and kept his job as a self-righteous, morally indignant politician. How anyone in this family continues to hold his or her head up is a mystery.
The utter two-faced behavior of the media and political elitists who rejoiced at the public beating Gov. Palin and her family took are now shocked - shocked, mind you - at what has happened to one of their own.
But, of course, it hasn't happened. The media covered it up as soon as it was leaked.
If shining a light is good for the Republicans, then it's good for the Democrats.
Let's up that wattage.
