The answer is (drumroll): Christians!
What a shocking revelation. Months before the election I wandered through the internet, skipping here and there, sometimes posting comments about articles published by well-known commentators and sometimes joining in the conversation that had sprung up around the article.
On Ann Coulter's site in particular, hell and damnation were tossed around like popcorn toward anyone who didn't hold to a literal understanding of the Bible. Vile words and name calling were used by some of these Christians toward people who were perfectly courteous, but who held a different religious belief - or, shockingly, none at all!
And if you had the bad luck of declaring that not all Muslims were terrorists, and that Muslims, just like Christians, were capable of different interpretations of their religion - well, Katy bar the door.
There were some rational people among these posters, but they were few and far between.
For the most part, the hate, ignorance, fear of the unknown and willingness to condemn those who believe differently made these a scary bunch of Christians, indeed.
When the end comes, something tells me these hatemongers aren't all going where they think. If they do, heaven must be one helluva place.
