Where to begin. Hmmmm. There are so many to choose from it's a veritable cornucopia of corruption and stupidity.
Every social, political and financial problem Mexico is having is America's fault. We buy too many of their drugs; we sell or give them high tech surveillance and weaponry systems to stem the tide of drugs incoming to the U.S. and the corrupt Mexican officials sell them to the drug lords, who in turn use them against the non-corrupt Mexican officials and innocent citizenry. All our fault.
The U.S. is having higher unemployment, which means that there are fewer job opportunities for people crossing our borders ILLEGALLY, thus preventing them from sucking money out of our economy and sending it back to Mexico. Though they can stay on here and use our schools, hospitals, welfare systems and whatever other social programs available to them at a staggering rate. Shame, shame on America. And since policy now forbids the legal check of anyone's Social Security number, all of these lovely services can go on the account of someone's stolen ID. Gosh, hope it's not yours, Nancy, who thinks the Constitution is a walk she takes after breakfast.
Nafta has made it impossible for Mexican farmers to make a good living. Okay.
Mexico doesn't have a vibrant middle class because of America's exploitative economic policy. There goes that bad, bad America again.
I love this one from Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, an aging researcher of youth culture: Mexico is corrupt because our "failed policies" have emptied Mexico of its resources. (Every time someone of the Liberal persuasion chirps "failed policies" they fall into a trancelike state, their voices become monotone, and they begin walking through fields of corn with their arms outstretched.)
Let's not build those walls! We don't want to offend those drug lords or make it more difficult for them to find their way into American cities. Besides, walls don't work.
But they do. Just ask San Diego, where a large stretch of wall has been finished.
And don't send the National Guard or American troops to help out at the border. We wouldn't want Mexico's sovereignty to be threatened. Umhm. And where should I start on that one. We all know how thoughtful Mexico is about America's sovereignty. How concerned they are that Mexicans obey our laws and not cross our borders illegally. Gosh, I'm tearing up here.
I haven't heard anyone explain why we're responsible for all of that really bad music yet, but I'm sure it's coming.
My beautiful America has become one big punching bag. Don't like something that's going on? It's not my fault. It's not Barney Frank's (shiver) fault. Nothing is Mexico's fault. Illegal immigration by the millions is a GOOD thing. Nope. It's America's fault. Let's blame the entire country. It's faceless. It's easy. You lay a guilt trip on millions of people and a few others get to feel really superior.
I'm not buying it and I'm starting to get really pissed off.
